DC Will Fine Building Owners Who Fail to Shovel Snow
It may be hot out, but DC officials are planning new fines for commercial property who fail to shovel snow. Property owners have just eight (8) hours after snow has ended to clear their sidewalks, steps, paths and parking lots.
Commercial property owners face fines up to $125 for a first offense and $500 for subsequent offenses. Homeowners can only be fined $25. Residential property owners over 65, or who are disabled, are exempt from fines. The Mayor has also instituted a program to match seniors with local volunteers.
Great as these new fines are, they won’t begin to help if you are seriously injured due to a property owner’s failure to shovel snow.
